A new smoking ban is set to target the combination of cigarettes and cigars. The law is set to take effect October 1st for drivers in England and Wales, but that doesn’t mean this idea won’t make its way across the Atlantic and to us at some point. More specifically, the ban is on smoking in a car with anyone under the age of 18 in it. The target is secondhand smoke, and minors are known to be especially susceptible to the negatives effects of traditional tobacco cigarette smoke. Authorities there see this as one way to combat it.
Nothing is mentioned when it comes to vapor cigarettes, and we’ll be curious to see how vaping plays into the equation. Vapor isn’t smoke, and although opponents of vaping are insistent on tying the two together, there hasn’t been any real evidence of secondhand vaping, so to speak. In short, if there wasn’t already enough reason for smokers to make the switch to vapor cigarettes, also called electronic cigarettes, here’s another. At least for those who own a car and live in England and Wales.
Due to the impending smoking ban, drivers will be subjected to a fine of up to $80 if caught smoking while in a car with minors. It won’t matter if the windows are rolled down, if they have a sunroof, or if the air conditioner is blasting to keep the secondhand smoke away. The only way around it? Own a convertible. If you’re in a convertible with the top completely down, the ban won’t apply to you. For everyone else, beware smoking in a car with minors.
It’s not that they aren’t right about the dangers here. As the UK Department of Health describes it, “The Secondhand smoke is dangerous for anyone, but children are especially vulnerable, because they breathe more rapidly and have less developed airways, lungs and immune systems. Over 80% of cigarette smoke is invisible and opening windows does not remove its harmful effect.” Those are some pretty astounding facts and unmask this concept that one can somehow get around the dangers of smoke in the air by opening windows or the like. Even if you don’t see it, traditional tobacco smoke is still out there doing harm.
Vapor Cigarettes A Solution While Driving
But vapor cigarettes, those are another story. Even though we do encounter that odd smoking ban that includes both smoke and vapor at the outset, it generally isn’t like that. Nor should it be, considering the fact that vapor presents a legitimate alternative to traditional tobacco cigarettes.
Want to drive around and get your nicotine fix in England this fall? Pick up an electronic cigarette and vape away. More than anything, this just supports the movement away from the thousands of chemicals we find in analogue cigarettes.
The good thing about these bans that have encroached on the lives of smokers everywhere (heck, you can’t even smoke in most public parks or beaches in America any more!) is that they offer an opportunity. We aren’t for rights being taken away as a rule, but we realize that as it becomes harder for smokers to live their lives as they would like to, they have to search for options. We can thank the creation of vapor cigarettes for making these changes much more bearable.
Ecigarettes offer a really satisfying experience for smokers who have had enough of the smell, the ash, and all the restrictions on traditional tobacco cigarettes. As long as you pick up one of the quality brands on the market, and there are several we recommend, you’re likely to find the only thing you’ll regret is not making the switch sooner. There are loads of options out there, and the top cig-a-likes will have you feeling like you are puffing away on your favorite cigarette brand. But you won’t be, you’ll be vaping.
Smoking has been on the way out for a long time now, but new restrictions, not to mention skyrocketing prices, the writing on the wall is clearer than it has ever been. If you’re thinking about making the switch to vapor cigarettes, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised once you find a quality brand that suites your needs and taste buds. The era of smoking is surely expiring, the only question is how long it will take for smokers to do join the millions transitioning to vapor.
